The {Horrible} Hunger Games

                                           March 23rd.
                  The World Will Be Watching.

Oh the joy. Can't you feel it? To watch a movie where someone gets a spear stuck in their body. Or get attacked by wolf things. Or just plain kill them violently. Must I go on? No, I am not a HG fan. Or a Harry Potter fan. Or a Twilight fan. I actually mostly highly dislike all of those things.

It just bugs me when people rave about them. I must say, I do like Star Wars a LOT, but I don't like the creepy scenes where someone is killed. I hate it when people get killed. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Ugh. I feel insanely sorry for those poor teenagers in that evil arena. They have to kill each other? Good grief! I don't really mind the concept of the Hunger Games. I mean, the game thing. But instead of killing everybody, can't they all take over the government or something? She{Suzanne Collins}should have saved them all. Not they all be viciously murdered

Yeah, my Mother won't let me read them. And I agree with her. I like ACTION ADVENTURE, not violent, gory, disgusting not-adventure. Ick. And I'm 14! Most of you who are going to watch this are probably younger than me if you're reading this blog. I think your parents need to read a review for these movies.

Here is a awful excerpt from the book, taken from a review,

"Cato lies on his side at the very top of the horn, twenty feet above the ground, gasping to catch his breath.... Now's my chance to finish him off. I stop midway up the horn and load another arrow, but just as I'm about to let it fly, I hear Peeta cry out. ...the mutts are right on his heels. 'Climb!' I yell....
"The mutts are beginning to assemble. As they join together, they raise up again to stand easily on their back legs giving them an eerily human quality. Each has a thick coat, some with fur that... vary from jet black to what I can only describe as blond. There’s something else about them, something that makes the hair rise up on the back of my neck...
"Then one of them...with silky waves of blond fur takes a running start and leaps onto the horn. Its back legs must be incredibly powerful because it lands a mere ten feet below us, its pink lips pulled back in a snarl. For a moment it hangs there, and in that moment I realize what else unsettled me about the mutts. The green eyes glowering at me are unlike any dog or wolf, any canine I’ve ever seen. They are unmistakably human. ... The blonde hair, the green eyes, the number ... it’s Glimmer [one of the dead Tributes]. I fire into its throat. Its body twitches and flops onto the ground... [His second death?]

"...I examine the pack, taking in the various sizes and colors. The small one with the red coat and amber eyes... Foxface! And there, the ashen hair and hazel eyes of the boy from District 9 who died as we struggled for the backpack! And worst of all, the smallest mutt, with dark glossy fur, huge brown eyes.... Teeth bared in hatred. Rue! [She was a sweet, twelve-year-old girl before she was killed]...

"They... walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward." Jeremiah 7:24.

Does that sound good to you? Uh, no. Not in a million years.

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Also, in the rather violent movies that we{my sister and I}are allowed to watch, we watch it on Clearplay. It's this DVD player that takes out all the swear words, the grosser gory parts, the extra-scary parts, that kinda thing.

                             It's called maintaining innocence.

"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of  darkness, but rather expose them." Ephesians 5:11

                              That's why I'm doing this.

Happy Hunger Games.

I'm sorry if I offended you.

  1. Woah. You know, this really made me think...I was wanting to go see the Hunger Games -- even someone I know who is eleven went to see it, and though I haven't asked her if she's read the books, I wouldn't be all that surprised if she had. I'm not against THG, but then again, I don't exactly support it especially after reading this post. You're amazing, Willow - thanks for being courageous and saying this while everyone else is obsessing over it!

Just to clarify, I've never seen the movie or read the books. After reading the excerpt you included, I'm...not very interested. Though, like you, that doesn't nessecarily (sp?) mean I hate people who are fans, of course.

Sorry for my super-long comment, btw. :P

  2. Thank you for the encouragement, Hannah:)I was just a little worried that everybody would hate me because I spoke my mind. I actually got my idea for a post about it from you.

  3. Oh, and I just thought I'd add that I can't stand Twilight, and I don't like Harry Potter either, though I did read Harry Potter (and now I'm not a fan..). Just to let you know that I'm with you on this!

  4. I totally understand where you're coming from, although I disagree. I needn't share my opinion, but I'll just tell you that I'm not mad. ;]

  5. Thanks for not being mad, Caro. But when you saw the movie, wasn't it gorily violent & gross?{I would just like to know}

  6. I don't agree with you, but I respect your opinion. I understand how you feel, and am not mad at all. :D
Oh, and the movie *was* quite violent, but not hideously gory. My mother said she thought it would be more violent.
(Doubt: is 'violenter' as in more violent a word? I was going to write it but then I said, "is it a real word?" English is not my first language.)

  7. Thanks for not being mad:) And no, I don't think 'violenter' is a word:) But why do you guys want to watch a movie & read a book about kids murdering each other?

  8. I... I don't know, actually. I just... huh.
To be honest, I first wanted to read the book because I saw something on Picasa about some 'Rue', and it said she was a character of those books. (Fun fact: Rue is my fave charachter.)
I had no idea what the books were about. No idea at all. But I went and bought one for my Kindle, just because I wanted to know what they were about.
And then the book was so awesome and well-written, and let me tell you, addictive--just one more chapter...okay two more...okay until ch15...and such--that I just became a hardcore fan.
The book's message, also, is kind of like... the effects of violence on teens. After... stuff happens, she [Katniss] finds out just how oppressive the Capitol is and how violence is not the answer (especially at the end of the final book).

  9. That is interesting. How you began to read the books I mean:) What I think is{be prepared for opinion:)}, is that the people should already know that. I mean, for a government that punishes people by making their children shoot each other with arrows and break each others necks seems pretty darn evil to me. Also, why don't the grownups have to? It would make more sense. [Note: I am ranting this to Suzanne Collins]. It just bugs me that its so super violent and gross and just...evil to have kids do that to each other. And have young kids watch it. It disturbs me. The thing that really disturbs me though, is that it de-sensitizes people about that kind of gory violence, kids brutally murdering kids. I am 14 and I cannot hardly bear to think of it. I know for a fact that I could not handle that book, or movie.

  14. Ok I'm sorry, but this post really offended me.
I mean you haven't even read hunger games!
And you put the worst part in all the books in your post?!?
I can totally understand why don't like it,and I agree with you on the whole kids killing other kids,no one likes it! No one in the book likes it,only president snow!
In the 2nd and 3rd book they are trying to take down the Capitol so that there are NO MORE hunger games. Don't you see,you are looking at the worst part of the books!
I don't like Star Wars or any of that stuff, but I don't go on about how much I don't like it..
    This really made me upset.
    Everyone keeps judging it!
I thought i wasn't going to like it at first, but I do now,it's my favorite book series.
I totally understand how people have different opinions, and I respect that.
Also,I can be way over obsessive about it.
And I will try to be better at keeping my "obsession" in.
    But please,keep it to yourself.

  18. Okay, so I know it's odd for me to be commenting on a post that's over a year old, so I hope you don't mind. ;) This is Hannah Elise, by the way :)

So a while ago, I finally watched THG and then I read the (first) book, and I thought they were good. I'm not obsessed with it, but I liked it. The whole killing thing I definitely didn't enjoy, but for the most part I enjoyed the movie & book.
Now, before I talk anymore I think you might like these two posts - this one http://god-sdaughter.blogspot.com/2012/03/hunger-games-part-1.html & this one http://www.ismikendra.org/2012/03/obsessing.html . The first one is a review, so you might want to scroll down to the last part of the post.
'Kay, so to clear things up I want to say that the whole killing thing I dislike - but so does the main character! She helps to start a rebellion. The idea of THG is actually very realistic of something that could happen in the future.
So my point is, I just wanted to let you know that I read and watched it, and what my thoughts were. I still totally respect your opinion, though. :)
And one more thing (sorry this is getting really long) - Just wanted to say that I have a friend who likes Twilight. A lot. I used to almost kind of look down on her for it and pick it apart even though I'd never read it. And then it hit me one day - what if she did that about one of my favorite books? I would defend it because I truly love it. I've never even read Twilight; therefore I don't really feel like I should pick on it. Now I am not saying this about you and THG. Trust me. I'm just saying that about Twilight, and any other book really. Just like we shouldn't make assumptions about people till we really know them, I shouldn't pick apart a book till I've read it. Okay, so I'm gonna stop rambling now. And I am sorry for my MAMMOTH comment. I'm sorry if I offended you or anybody else; this is just my opinion and does not mean I'm right. Willow, you could email me if you wanted to! My email address is on my blog. :)

    XO :)

    1. Long comments are fine! I know about the friend thing. Several of my friends liked it. They had fits when I was like "I don't." But my main problem with THG is that Katniss chose to play the game. She didn't say "Oh, how about I not play this game?". She did play the game. I don't know tons about it, and I don't want to. And it's hard to explain precisely how I feel about it. I'm actually going to write a story based on the concept. But I'm going to redeem it.No prob.

    2. Okay! I totally get how you feel. I sort of still feel the same way. I thought it was good, but definitely I still don't get why people are obsessing over it. :P Ah well. Thanks for replying!
